AC REPAIR GUIDE SAN ANTONIO & SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

Blower Motor Repair

The indoor blower moves return air across the evaporator coil and into the supply ducts. Weak airflow may point to its motor or control, but a blocked filter, dirty coil, or duct restriction can produce similar results. Restoring airflow requires checking both the blower and the path through which it moves air.

START WITH CONTEXT / 01

One symptom.
Several possible causes.

The details you notice at home help frame the diagnosis, but testing is needed before deciding what to repair. This guide explains the clues and checks for this specific issue.
UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE / 02

What causes this?

These are possibilities, not a diagnosis. Similar symptoms can come from different parts of the cooling system.

  1. A failed motor, module, capacitor where used, or control can prevent the blower from running at the needed speed.

  2. A heavily loaded filter or obstructed return can limit the air available to the blower.

  3. A dirty indoor coil or restricted supply duct can reduce delivered airflow even with the motor operating.

AT HOME / 03

What to look for

Take note of when the problem occurs and what the indoor and outdoor units are doing. Share these clues when you call.

  • 01

Airflow is weak at multiple vents while the thermostat is calling for cooling.

  • 02

The indoor unit sounds unusual or the blower does not run when expected.

  • 03

The coil or refrigerant line ices up while little air is moving indoors.

A safe next step

Do not reach into the blower compartment or operate equipment with access panels removed. If the indoor coil is frozen, stop cooling and have the cause evaluated.

DIAGNOSIS FIRST / 04

What our technician will do

The indoor blower, its controls, and airflow restrictions are examined together. The findings help determine which repair, if any, addresses the actual fault. Repair pricing is quoted after diagnosis; review the proposed work and price before approving a repair.

  1. Inspect the filter, return and supply paths, coil condition, and blower assembly for restrictions or damage.

  2. Check control signals and appropriate motor electrical and operating measurements to identify a motor or control fault.

  3. Discuss the diagnosed cause and obtain approval before motor, control, or airflow-related repair.

  4. If corrected, verify blower operation and delivered airflow and check cooling behavior once any ice has thawed.

  • Is the outdoor unit running?
  • When did the problem start?
  • Have you noticed unusual noises, ice, or leaking water?

These details help our technician prepare. You don’t need to diagnose the problem yourself.
